Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1983 (P) Jefferson Nickel is part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 561.6 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 51% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Low mintages continued from the recession, with 1983-P and 1983-D among the scarcer modern dates. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $11 depending on grade and condition.
