Description

WDDO-014 on the 2018-P Lincoln Shield Cent was attributed by the Wexler Team and catalogued as Wexler Variety ID 2018 1¢ WDDO-014. The doubling produces a sloped extra thickness on LIBERTY — the spread following a slight angular direction rather than a uniform widening — and an additional wide right side on the 2 of the date, where the doubled impression broadens the right edge of the numeral. Die markers are present on both sides of the coin. On the obverse: a small die chip is located under the top horizontal bar of the E in LIBERTY; a small die chip is centered above the RT of LIBERTY; and two small die chips are visible on the upright of another letter in the obverse legend. The 2018 Lincoln Shield Cent was struck in copper-plated zinc at the Philadelphia Mint under the Union Shield reverse design introduced in 2010, which replaced the four Lincoln Bicentennial reverses used in 2009. Cross-reference: Wexler Variety ID: 2018 1¢ WDDO-014. Reverse: A die chip can be found above the P of PLURIBUS present on a die crack running along the top left side of the shield.
