About This Coin
The 2002 West Point Bicentennial Commemorative Dollar is a United States commemorative dollar. Authorized to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the United States Military Academy at West Point, established in 1802. West Point has trained military leaders including Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, Dwight Eisenhower, Douglas MacArthur, and countless other distinguished officers. The obverse features five figures of the Academy Color Guard in parade marching toward the viewer, with Washington Hall and Cadet Chapel in the background, while the reverse displays the United States Military Academy Bicentennial logo with a plumed helmet and sword. Designed by T. James Ferrell/John Mercanti. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. The West Point dollar honors one of America's most prestigious military institutions, and the precision of the Color Guard design reflects the Academy's emphasis on discipline and tradition.
