In 1984, coins were struck at the San Francisco, Denver, and Philadelphia Mints with a combined mintage of 4.1 million. This represents the second-highest annual mintage in the series, above the series median of 226,572. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue.
