The 1984 Los Angeles Olympiad Commemorative Dollar is a United States dollar from the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series — the second year of the series. In 1984, coins were struck at the San Francisco, Denver, and Philadelphia Mints with a combined mintage of 4.1 million. This represents the second-highest annual mintage in the series, above the series median of 226,572. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. A notable auction result reached $9.4K in MS70 grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by Robert Graham.
