About This Coin
The 1991 United Service Organizations Commemorative Dollar is a United States commemorative dollar. Authorized to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Service Organizations, founded in 1941 to provide morale and recreational services to U.S. military personnel. The USO is perhaps best known for its celebrity entertainment tours, beginning with Bob Hope's legendary shows during World War II. The obverse features a USO banner with six stars, celebrating the organization's 50th anniversary, while the reverse displays an eagle perched atop a globe, holding a ribbon inscribed 'USO' in its beak. Designed by Robert Lamb/John Mercanti. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. The USO dollar recognizes one of America's most beloved support organizations for the military. It has a modest mintage that makes it relatively affordable among modern commemoratives.
