Description
The 1963 (D) Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Denver Mint as a nickel in the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 276.8 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 61% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Rising coin demand drove higher mintages at both mints. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $30 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4074.
