1960 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-021
Error
Description
Carrying cross-references to both Coppercoins (1960P-1DO-008) and CONECA (13-O-IV+VIII), WDDO-021 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Proof Small Date is one of the better-documented proof DDO varieties in this series. A Class II spread towards the rim shows on the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, with the rimward displacement indicating that the secondary hub impression landed slightly outward from center during die manufacture. The CONECA classification as 13-O-IV+VIII denotes a combination of Class IV and Class VIII characteristics alongside the primary spread. On the obverse, the Small Date hub type is confirmed, with die scratches running from south-southwest to north-northeast above the I and B in LIBERTY, and additional die scratches running from west to east on the lower shoulder. The reverse shows numerous nearly horizontal die scratches in the 9th Memorial bay. Because proof dies were typically retired after approximately 3,000 impressions, the total population of this variety is inherently limited. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1960 1¢ Pr WDDO-021, the multiple cross-references across attribution services confirm this variety's acceptance in the broader numismatic community.
