1936 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-006

Description

The 1936 Washington Quarter WDDO-006, attributed by the Wexler team and discovered by Timothy Wissert, shows a spread toward the center on the date, the bottom of the ribbon, LIBERTY, IN, and the TR of TRUST. Die markers on the obverse include three weak parallel die scratches running SW/NE below the I in LIBERTY, and a short die scratch running southeast from the center-right of the Y in LIBERTY. Reverse die markers include a die scratch curving west from the second S in STATES, a die scratch running southwest from the lower left of the first U in UNUM, and a short die gouge running northeast from the lower right of the D in UNITED. The Washington Quarter debuted in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth, with a portrait modeled by sculptor John Flanagan. Wexler Variety ID: 1936 25¢ WDDO-006.
