Description

Very strong spread on all lettering and the date establishes this as the premier doubled die obverse for the 1936 Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter — combining early series appeal with dramatic hub doubling. Cross-referenced as FS-101 (Cherrypickers), inclusion in that widely used reference makes DDO-001 a staple target for cherry pickers searching dealer inventories and coin shows. Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-0042 with die marker reference DMR-003, three die stages document the die's progression. Stage B reveals developing die deterioration: a light die crack across the bust and another from the forehead into the hair, with the reverse reaching Mid Die State. The "very strong" classification places this among the most visible DDOs in the Washington Quarter series — strong enough that experienced collectors can often detect the spread without high magnification.
