Discovered by David Close, the 1925 Peace Dollar VAM-1P is defined by a long, thin, and shallow horizontal die scratch on the reverse (die B2a) that traverses the eagle's left wing edge through the second ray from the top. Paired with obverse die II 1, this variety carries an I-2 interest level and R-5 rarity rating. The scratch's horizontal orientation across the wing and ray elements creates a distinctive linear mark on struck coins that cuts across the natural vertical flow of the eagle's wing feathers. Die scratches on the reverse eagle are common diagnostic features in Peace Dollar VAM collecting, as the eagle design features complex feather detail and multiple rays that provide precise reference points for locating and describing each scratch.
