Description

This 1925 Philadelphia Peace Dollar is cataloged as Wexler WDDR-002, a doubled die reverse that gains additional significance because its obverse die is also a doubled die, listed as WDDO-002. This pairing makes the coin a double-doubled die, carrying hub doubling on both sides. The obverse shows very close doubling on the designer's initials and the date, with die scratches running southwest to northeast through TRUST. On the reverse, two die gouges run through the right leg of the A in PEACE, and a small die gouge can be found inside the C of PEACE. The presence of both obverse and reverse hub doubling on a single coin is relatively uncommon and suggests that both working dies in this pair received imperfect hub impressions during their manufacture. Collectors who locate this variety effectively obtain two doubled dies for the price of one, making it a compelling find for Peace Dollar die variety specialists.
