1925 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

Carrying the Wexler designation 1925 $1 WDDR-003, this Philadelphia Mint Peace Dollar doubled die reverse shows light doubling on the olive branch and leaves, the word DOLLAR, rays behind the eagle, and the furthest left leg feather. Affected elements across multiple design zones — botanical, textual, radial, and anatomical — indicate hub displacement engaging a broad area of the reverse die face. Heavy crisscross die polishing lines on the obverse and heavy polishing lines through PEACE on the reverse document extensive die surface maintenance, with the strongest polishing visible inside the C of PEACE. A long die scratch from the first T in STATES to the left of the first U in E PLURIBUS UNUM provides a distinctive linear marker spanning two separate legend elements. The 1925 Peace Dollar, struck at Philadelphia with a mintage of approximately 10.2 million, represents the middle production years of the series running from 1921 through 1935. Light doubling on Peace Dollars rewards patient examination under moderate magnification, particularly on the finely detailed olive branch where even slight displacement produces visible secondary leaf edges.
