Description

Discovered by David Close, the 1925 Philadelphia Mint Peace Dollar VAM-1M is classified as II 1 B2a (Faint Double Clash Spikes Eagle's Shoulder, Shortened Top Rays) with a rarity rating of I-2 R-5. Struck in 90% silver, this Peace Dollar variety features faint double die clash spikes from the back of Liberty's head and neck area on the obverse, where two separate clash events transferred reverse design elements in slightly different positions. The top three rays are shortened due to over-polishing, where aggressive die maintenance removed material from the ray tips, truncating these elements. VAM-1M represents a late die state of 1925-P VAM-1D, establishing a die progression relationship where VAM-1M documents the same die marriage at a more advanced production stage. The I-2 R-5 rarity rating indicates moderate interest level with an estimated population suggesting scarcity. Anthony de Francisci's Peace Dollar design, featuring Liberty wearing a radiate crown with TRVST on the reverse, ran from 1921 through 1935, and the 1925-P issue represents a mid-series Philadelphia production year.
