Description

Discovered in June 2015 by Bill Toland, the 1925-P VAM-1F2 Peace Dollar carries the full designation "Die Gouges Below D, Die Breaks Rear Hair Strands & OF." Classified II1 with a B2a reverse, this variety rates I-2 R-6 on the rarity scale, placing it among the scarcer 1925 Peace Dollar die marriages. On the obverse, a radial die crack extends from the rim toward the rear hair strands with a displaced field break, occurring after the die gouges below the D in the TRVST motto. The reverse displays a radial die crack running from the rim down through OF with its own displaced field break, developing after the gouges below D. These sequential crack progressions suggest the die gouges preceded and likely contributed to the structural failures that produced both breaks. The combination of die gouges and displaced field breaks on both sides makes this a visually dramatic variety for the Peace Dollar specialist.
