Discovered in 2018 by Bob Folkers, the 1925-P Peace Dollar VAM-1AT is identified by a vertical die gouge above the right T of TRVST — the Peace Dollar's distinctive Latin spelling of TRUST in the motto IN GOD WE TRVST, a design choice by Anthony de Francisci that references classical Roman epigraphy. The vertical die gouge above the right T provides a precise and easily located attribution target, as TRVST occupies a prominent position on the obverse below Liberty's chin. Die gouges are depressions in the die face caused by contact damage or tooling, transferring as small raised marks on struck coins. Classified as die pair II1-B2a with rarity R-5 (31 to 75 estimated known) and an interest rating of I-2, this variety joins the extensive VAM catalog for the 1925 Philadelphia Mint Peace Dollar, which boasts a mintage of 10,198,000. The 1925-P is a mid-series date that saw healthy production as post-war silver dollar demand remained steady. Struck in 90% silver at 26.73 grams and 38.1mm diameter.
