Description
The 1889 (O) Morgan Dollar is a dollar from the New Orleans Mint, belonging to the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. The U.S. Mint produced 11.9 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 34% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. The 1889-CC with a mintage of 350,000 is one of the most popular Carson City Morgan Dollars. The New Orleans Mint operated from 1838 to 1909, producing coins valued for their Southern historical provenance. Estimated market value ranges from $87 to $3.3K depending on grade and condition.
