2023 Variety WWHO-002

Description

Submitted by Dan Feagle under Wexler Variety ID 2023-P 25¢ ER WWHO-002 and cross-referenced as VarietyVista VDDO-001, this Philadelphia Eleanor Roosevelt quarter displays a Working Working Hub Obverse variety with strong doubling to the east on OD in GOD, the last T in TRUST, and in the hair detail. A WWHO differs from a standard doubled die because the doubling originates at the working hub level, meaning the same displaced image can appear across multiple working dies produced from that hub. Die markers on both obverse and reverse will therefore vary among affected dies. The obverse shows WWHO-001 markers including a die crack across the nose tip, a small gouge left of the 0 in the date, small gouges behind the neck, and a gouge right of B in LIBERTY. The reverse exhibits very slight doubling on Roosevelt's necklace near the scales plus a die gouge below the right pan. WWHO-002 is known on both 2023-P Edith Kanaka'ole and Eleanor Roosevelt quarters, and this listing remains tentative pending further research into the 2022-2023 master die and working hub production issues.
