2022 Variety WWHO-002

Description

Closely related to WWHO-001 yet distinct in its doubling direction, this second doubled working hub obverse variety for the Anna May Wong Quarter shows strong doubling to the north on the eye — contrasting with WWHO-001's eastward displacement. Like its companion variety, WWHO-002 originates from the normal obverse master die and is not associated with WMDO-001. The distinction between northward and eastward doubling indicates that two separate working hubs received misaligned impressions at different angles during the hubbing process, each then producing its own set of affected working dies. Currently WWHO-002 is known only on 2022-P Wong quarters, whereas WWHO-001 has been confirmed across multiple American Women Quarter designs. This narrower confirmed scope may expand as research by the Wexler Team continues, and the listing remains tentative and subject to change. Collectors examining Wong quarters should pay close attention to the eye area under magnification, noting the direction of the secondary image to distinguish between the two hub doubling varieties.
