American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025)

Coin Series
American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series coin

About This Series

Enacted through the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, this program celebrates trailblazing women with five distinctive reverse designs annually from 2022 through 2025. The obverse finally adopted Laura Gardin Fraser's right-facing Washington portrait — originally submitted for the 1932 quarter but passed over for John Flanagan's profile, a decision long considered a great missed opportunity. Honorees span the arts, sciences, civil rights, and public life: Maya Angelou, Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, Anna May Wong, Bessie Coleman, Eleanor Roosevelt, and many more. Struck in copper-nickel clad at Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) for circulation, with proof versions from San Francisco (S) in both clad and .999 fine silver, the quarters maintain the standard 24.26 mm diameter and 5.67 gram weight. Each reverse was created through collaboration between the Artistic Infusion Program and the Commission of Fine Arts. The program represents the first systematic honoring of women's achievements on American circulating coinage.
