2019 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with codes UVC-2388 and DMR-002, this 2019 America the Beautiful Quarter presents strong extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST and OF AMERICA, with additional extra thickness on RTY of LIBERTY — multiple inscription areas across the obverse showing the effects of hub displacement during die production. The die state documentation extends to four stages rather than the typical three: Stage A and Stage B remain unconfirmed at EDS and MDS respectively, Stage C is unconfirmed at LDS, and Stage D — a very late die state (VLDS) — shows the obverse in extreme late condition with a die depression above the rightmost flag at early-to-mid die state on the reverse. The four-stage tracking and the appearance of a die depression in Stage D document an unusually long service life for this die, which progressed from production through standard wear into very late die state territory where structural deformation (the depression above the flag) began to develop. The 2019 ATB Quarter was struck in copper-nickel clad composition at 5.67 grams with a 24.26 mm diameter. The "strong extra thickness" classification on multiple design elements (IGWT, OF AMERICA, RTY) indicates doubling visible at moderate magnification levels, making DDO-001 the primary doubled die obverse for the 2019 date — the -001 catalog number indicating it was either the first discovered or the most significant doubled die obverse documented for the year.
