DC-25c-2019P-01 Die Chip
Error
Description
Cataloged by Cuds on Coins, this 2019-P American Memorial National Park Quarter carries an unusual die chip that warranted inclusion despite the site's general policy of no longer listing die chips unless exceptional. Cross-referenced as Lowell National Historical Park, documented 06/17/2019. Per Cuds on Coins, this die chip was preceded by a circular die crack, as reported by Mike Diamond in Coin World June 2019. The circular crack preceding the chip is what makes this variety significant: rather than random fracture, the die developed a ring-shaped crack that then collapsed, documenting a specific failure mechanism. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-nickel clad (8.33% nickel, 91.67% copper), weighing 5.67 grams with a 24.26 mm diameter. The ATB series ran 2010-2021, depicting national parks across 56 designs.
