2009P(DC)-25MDEO-001T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Found by Steven Bernatowicz, this DC Quarter from the Philadelphia Mint is a trail die obverse that also carries doubled die reverse characteristics, making it a multi-variety coin. Die markers at Stage B: obverse at MDS with two die scratches through LLAR of DOLLAR; reverse at MDS with a die crack on the piano top and slight doubling on E of ELLINGTON. Cross-referenced as WDDR-004, WDDR-012, and WDDR-015 — a triple cross-reference suggesting this reverse die appears in multiple Wexler DDR listings. The DC Quarter reverse features Duke Ellington, the jazz musician and Washington native, seated at a piano. Struck in copper-nickel clad at 5.67 grams and 24.26 mm, the 2009-P DC Quarter was part of the series that extended the State Quarter program to non-state jurisdictions.
