2007D-1DEO-004T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Discovered by Allan White, the 2007D-1DEO-004T is a trail die obverse variety on the Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial cent, documenting progressive die deterioration on the obverse rather than the more commonly cataloged reverse trail dies. At Stage B, the obverse is at mid-die state with a small die gouge to the right of the mintmark as the primary pickup point. The reverse is also at mid-die state with no markers found. Obverse trail dies on Lincoln cents are tracked through the 1DEO designation system, distinguishing them from the 1DER reverse trail die series. The die gouge adjacent to the D mintmark provides a convenient diagnostic, as collectors can quickly check for this marker when sorting through rolls of 2007-D cents. Struck at the Denver Mint in the penultimate year of the Lincoln Memorial cent series, this variety is part of the extensive trail die catalog documenting die deterioration across decades of high-volume cent production.
