2005 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

Discovered by Kenneth Russell, this satin finish 2005 Jefferson Nickel carries a Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling on the obverse. Part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series featuring Joe Fitzgerald's American Bison reverse, the 2005 issue was distributed in Mint Sets with the distinctive satin finish applied from 2005 through 2010. Doubling is visible on GOD and TRUST in IN GOD WE TRUST, where the tilted hub created a secondary impression with slight angular displacement. A reliable die marker aids attribution: a die dot on the bison's rear right leg on the reverse confirms the specific working die pair. Class VIII doubling results from the working hub being tilted at a slight angle relative to the working die during hubbing, producing spread that radiates from a pivot point rather than shifting uniformly.
