About This Coin
The 1994 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commemorative Dollar is a United States commemorative dollar. Authorized to commemorate the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., designed by Maya Lin and dedicated in 1982. The obverse captures the deeply personal experience of visiting 'The Wall,' where over 58,000 names of fallen service members are inscribed. The obverse features a section of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall with an outstretched hand touching a name, the Washington Monument and a tree visible in the background, while the reverse displays three military service medals from the Vietnam era — the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Designed by John M. Mercanti/Thomas D. Rogers. Weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial dollar's poignant scene of a hand touching a name is one of the most emotionally moving designs in U.S. coinage history.
