Cataloged in the MadDieClashes reference, TDC-100C-1971D-03 documents a dual-event die clash on the 1971-D Eisenhower Dollar — two separate clash incidents produced overlapping transferred design elements notably more dramatic than a single-event clash. On the obverse, two distinct "Talon" clash impressions are visible along with a "hair lip" effect where reverse design elements transferred onto Eisenhower's portrait. The reverse exhibits a chin clash through the globe portion of the Apollo 11 insignia, where Eisenhower's chin profile ghosted onto the design. Dual-event clashes require that the die pair struck together without a planchet on two separate occasions before either die was replaced, and the layered ghost images create a complex pattern that experienced collectors can decode into individual clash sequences. The 1971-D was the first year of the large-dollar series honoring both President Eisenhower and the Apollo 11 moon landing, struck in copper-nickel clad at the Denver Mint.
