1968-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

A proof-only Roosevelt Dime from the San Francisco Mint, this VarietyVista-documented RPM-002 shows an S/S West displacement with the mintmark placed farther west than RPM-001 for the same date. Die markers UVC-766 / DMR-015: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with obverse at LDS and reverse listed as RDV-001 (weak flame) at LDS. The RDV-001 designation identifies a reverse die variety with a characteristically weak torch flame, adding a secondary attribution dimension beyond the primary RPM. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the clad proof dime was struck in copper-nickel clad composition at 2.27 grams and 17.91 mm. The 1968-S was the first year proof production resumed at San Francisco after the 1965-67 Special Mint Set interlude, making proof RPM varieties from this transitional year especially significant to variety collectors.
