Description

Master die doubling represents the broadest possible scope of hub-doubling influence: because the master die serves as the source from which all working hubs are produced, a doubling event at this level propagates through every subsequent generation of tooling — every working hub, every working die, and ultimately every coin produced from the affected master die. WMDO-001 documents such an event for the 1968 Roosevelt dime, showing spread toward the center on LIB of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. The Wexler Team's extensive cross-reference note explains the consequence: because this is a doubled master die, all working dies for the 1968 P, D, and S-Mint proof Roosevelt dimes inherited this doubling, meaning all 1968-dated Roosevelt dimes carry this variety to some degree. This universal presence renders the variety numismatically interesting but commercially worthless — no premium attaches to a characteristic shared by the entire annual output. How prominently the doubling appears on any individual coin depends on three variables: the generation state of the working hub used to sink the die, the state of the working die itself, and the amount of wear the coin has experienced.
