Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-447 and DMR-022, this 1964 Roosevelt Silver Dime carries a doubled die reverse with light spread on AMERICA, DIME, and the M of UNUM, paired with obverse die ODV-011 which features a distinctive blunt 9 in the date. Three die stages document this die's working life: Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B at mid-die state showing numerous die scratches on both the reverse and obverse surfaces, along with a strong die crack running from the eye northeast through the forehead and into the hair on the obverse; and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The 1964 Roosevelt Dime is one of the highest-mintage silver coins in American history, with Philadelphia alone producing over 929 million and Denver contributing more than 1.357 billion — a frantic production push driven by the coin shortage of the early 1960s and the knowledge that 1964 would be the final year of 90% silver dime composition under the impending Coinage Act of 1965.
