1964 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-024

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team and carrying the designation WDDR-024, this proof 1964 Roosevelt Dime from the Philadelphia Mint shows very light spread across several reverse design elements, including USA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DIME. The subtlety of the doubling places this variety in the category of varieties best examined under magnification with proper lighting. Reverse die markers strengthen the attribution: a vertical die scratch appears at the left lower portion of the U in UNITED, while a horizontal die scratch extends from the bottom of the left leg of the R in AMERICA and runs eastward beneath the I. No significant obverse die markers have been documented. The cross-reference listing notes this as Wexler Variety ID 1964 10c Pr WDDR-024, with no other known catalog assignments at this time. As the final year of silver Roosevelt Dime production, 1964 holds particular significance — the Coinage Act of 1965 would replace the 90% silver composition with copper-nickel clad, making every 1964 proof dime the last of its metallic lineage.
