Description

Class V counter-clockwise rotated hub doubling with a pivot at approximately 1 o'clock characterizes this proof-only 1964 Roosevelt Dime reverse, with spread visible on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, E PLU, the left dot, and the upper olive branch — strongest in the lower left quadrant, farthest from the pivot. This variety is similar to WDDR-013 but distinguishable by the presence of doubling on the upper olive branches, which the companion variety lacks. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1964 10c Pr WDDR-014, the obverse carries a diagnostic blunt tail 9 while the reverse shows no significant secondary markers. The 1964 proof Roosevelt Dime is the last year of 90% silver composition — the Coinage Act of 1965 would transition dimes to copper-nickel clad. The Class V CCW mechanism with a defined pivot produces a predictable pattern where doubling intensity increases with distance from the pivot, explaining the lower left quadrant's strongest expression. Fourteen DDRs for the 1964 proof reflects intensive examination of these final silver proofs.
