Error
Description
Bearing the attribution work of Brian A. Ribar, the 1956 Proof Jefferson Nickel WDDO-011 showcases Class II distorted hub doubling with very nice doubling visible on In God We Trust. The obverse carries a circular die scratch pattern in Jefferson's hair — an uncommon marker type — along with a die dot positioned below LI of LIBERTY near the back of the head. On the reverse, die scratches appear in and above the small left window of Monticello, complemented by a short die gouge above the left arch. The circular scratch pattern in the hair provides an especially reliable identification point, as its distinctive shape sets it apart from the linear scratches more commonly encountered on die surfaces. As a proof-only variety, this die marriage was used exclusively for the collector-oriented proof production at the Philadelphia Mint.
