Description
The 1956 Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a nickel in the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. With a mintage of 35.2 million, this is a less common issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. The 1956-D had a notably high mintage exceeding 67 million, reflecting growing coin demand.
