Description

Displaying an S/S West displacement, the 1949-S Lincoln wheat cent RPM-010 is a San Francisco Mint variety cataloged by VarietyVista under die markers UVC-333 and DMR-012. Four die stages are documented, tracing the die's progression from fresh to worn. Stage A represents early die state but remains unconfirmed. Stage B at mid-die state is identified by three die scratches running northwest from the Y of LIBERTY on the obverse, with the reverse also at mid-die state. Stage C, at late-to-mid die state, shows numerous north-south die scratches across the obverse and the reverse in similar condition. Stage D at late die state is unconfirmed. The 1949-S cent had a mintage of approximately 64.3 million pieces, modest by series standards, and San Francisco cents from this era are generally more available in circulated grades than in mint state. The westward displacement of the secondary S impression provides the primary pickup point, while the progressive die scratches documented across stages help collectors determine exactly where their specimen falls in the die's production sequence.
