CU-1C-1949S-01R Rim Cud
Error
Description
Sole documented reverse cud for the 1949 San Francisco Lincoln Wheat Cent, recording a rim failure when S-mint cent production supplemented larger Philadelphia and Denver operations. San Francisco struck approximately 64.3 million cents in 1949, and the single cud suggests either low die failure rates or incomplete documentation. Sustained high-pressure striking induced a rim fracture, and the separated fragment left a void filling with bronze planchet metal. Only nine more years of the Wheat Cent design remained before the 1959 Memorial transition. Cross-referenced as CU-1C-1949S-01R, cataloged by Cuds on Coins.
