1949-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-009

Description

Recorded by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-009 exhibits a well-documented four-stage die life. Die markers UVC-332 / DMR-011: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with numerous die scratches North-South on obverse at EMDS and reverse at EMDS; Stage C with a light die crack on lower lapel at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage D with a die crack across lower bust at LDS and reverse at LDS. The four-stage progression from EDS through LDS, with die scratches appearing early and a crack emerging later, documents the full production arc of this die pair. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1949-S had a mintage of approximately 64.3 million pieces. Victor David Brenner's wheat ears reverse was entering its final decade of service.
