1949-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-008 features a rich set of die scratches documented across four progressive stages. Die markers UVC-331 / DMR-010: Stage A with die scratches north from TY of LIBERTY at EDS and parallel die scratches south from L of PLURIBUS to O of ONE at EDS; Stage B with obverse and reverse at MDS; Stage C with die scratches East-West on throat at LMDS and weak reverse die scratches at LMDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The directional die scratch pattern — northward from LIBERTY, southward from PLURIBUS, and later East-West on the throat — documents multiple separate scratch events across the die's service life. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1949-S was struck at San Francisco during the late years of Brenner's wheat ears reverse.
