1947-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002

Description

Only the second year of Roosevelt Dime production, the 1947-D DDO-002 documents a light spread on LIBERTY — subtle hub doubling that can escape notice without careful magnification. VarietyVista assigns Universal Variety Code UVC-148 and Die Marker Reference DMR-003, with three die stages: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B in mid-die-state (unconfirmed), and Stage C where both obverse and reverse reach late die state. The LDS condition of Stage C means the die saw significant service, and specimens from this stage may show softened details alongside the doubling. A note from VarietyVista's curator — "I need to see a specimen for new color digital photos" — underscores the limited documentation available and suggests high-quality photographic records have yet to be compiled. For collectors, this represents both a challenge and an opportunity: the variety is confirmed but underrepresented in published references. Sinnock's design had been in production barely a year when this Denver die was prepared, and early Roosevelt Dime issues are actively collected as foundation years of the series.
