1947-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
Error
Description
WDDO-001 on the 1947-D Roosevelt Dime is a Wexler Team attribution carrying cross-references CONECA 1-O-II (3) and Cherrypickers FS-10-1947D-102. The Cherrypickers reference was removed in the 6th Edition, a detail that should be noted for collectors using different guide editions. The doubling manifests as a strong spread toward the rim on LIBERTY — the most visible component of this variety, resolvable under moderate magnification — and a very light spread toward center on IN GOD WE TRUST and the date from another hubbing. The inward spread on the motto and date is subtle and best confirmed on EDS examples where the competing hubbing impression retains definition. Die markers are documented on both the obverse and reverse sides. The 1947-D Roosevelt Dime is a 90% silver issue struck at Denver in the second year of the Roosevelt series. CONECA 1-O-II class designation confirms the specific doubling mechanism. The LIBERTY rim-spread is the primary diagnostic and the feature most likely to survive into circulated grades, while the lighter IGWT spread should be treated as a secondary confirmation on higher-grade examples. Die Markers: Obverse: Die scratch west from the 1 in the date to the bust. E/W die scratch in the field centered between the 1 of the date and the bust. Long die scratch east from the D of GOD to the neck. Die chips in the area of IGWT. Reverse: NE/SW die scratches around the olive branch.
