1946-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005
ErrorDescription
Displaying a close clockwise spread pivoting from approximately the 3 o'clock position, this 1946-D Washington Quarter WDDO-005 concentrates its doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST. The pivot-point classification indicates rotational hub displacement, where the secondary impression rotates around a fixed axis, producing spread that increases with distance from the pivot. Multiple die markers assist attribution. On the obverse, die scratches run west-southwest from the forehead, and a die crack traverses the base of the bust. The reverse carries progressive deterioration markers: a die crack descends down the eagle's right wing, and another runs from BUS in PLURIBUS to the top of the eagle's left wing. These reverse cracks indicate extensive use, and their presence alongside the obverse doubling means collectors can authenticate specimens by checking both sides. Attributed by the Wexler Team, WDDO-005 is a Denver Mint 90% silver issue from the first full year of postwar coinage production.
