Description

Featuring a light spread on RTY of LIBERTY with light rotation on IN GOD WE TRUST, this 1946-D Washington Quarter DDO-010 pairs its doubled obverse with an RPM-003 reverse, forming a multi-variety die combination. Die markers include UVC-0623 and DMR-011. Three die stages have been identified: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B with the obverse at mid-die state and the reverse listed as RPM-003 at mid-die state; and Stage C in late die state showing a light die crack across the bust on the obverse and a light die crack descending down the eagle's right wing on the reverse. The late die state cracks provide strong diagnostics for confirming this specific die. The 1946-D issue marked the first full year of post-war quarter production at the Denver Mint, where pent-up demand drove substantial output. Collectors seeking this variety should examine the RTY of LIBERTY under magnification while also checking the reverse mintmark for RPM-003 characteristics.
