1945 Repunched Mintmark RPM-010

Description

Cataloged as UVC-201 and DMR-011, the 1945-P Jefferson Nickel RPM-010 is a repunched large P mintmark variety on the final year of the wartime silver alloy series. No directional designation is recorded for the secondary impression. Three die stages document the die pair: Stage A is early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B shows both obverse and reverse at mid die state; Stage C is late die state (unconfirmed). The 1945-P wartime silver nickel, struck in 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese, marked the last year of the emergency alloy program that began in mid-1942. Production of silver composition nickels ceased at year's end as World War II concluded, making the 1945-P the final Philadelphia issue of the wartime series. The large P above Monticello, applied by hand to each working die, continued to generate repunching events throughout the year. RPM-010 is cataloged in the VarietyVista system as one of the lower-numbered confirmed die pairs in the 1945-P repunched mintmark group.
