Description

Exhibiting Class V pivoted hub doubling, WDDO-002 on the 1945 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel produces a distinctive clockwise spread from a pivot point near the rim at 3 o'clock, manifesting most clearly on IN GOD WE TRUST. Die markers confirm the attribution: a short vertical die gouge sits below and between WE and TRUST on the obverse. The reverse of this same die pair carries its own variety designation — listed as WRPM-045 with a P/P/P/P mintmark showing displacement to the south and east, indicating the Philadelphia mintmark was punched at least four times before achieving acceptable placement. Cross-referenced as CONECA DDO-002 + RPM#57, this dual-variety coin offers collectors two distinct minting anomalies on a single specimen. The 1945 Philadelphia date represents the transition period when Jefferson Nickels were returning from the wartime silver alloy composition (35% silver, 56% copper, 9% manganese) used from mid-1942 through 1945.
