1945 Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Among the earliest cataloged RPMs for the prolific 1945-P date, RPM-005 was documented by VarietyVista within a population exceeding 73 identified varieties for this single date-mint combination. Die markers UVC-196 / DMR-006: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die scratch above M of MONTICELLO at MDS and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse at LDS and a die clash above the knot at LDS. The die clash at Stage C indicates the die pair clashed during production, transferring design elements between dies. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1945-P represents the final year of wartime silver alloy production before the return to standard copper-nickel in 1946.
