1945 Repunched Mintmark RPM-004

Description

Among the earliest cataloged RPMs for the prolific 1945-P date, RPM-004 was documented by VarietyVista with a P/P/P South, Northwest triple-punched mintmark. Die markers UVC-195 / DMR-005: Stage A with numerous die scratches east-west on upper reverse at EDS and obverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The triple P/P/P displacement with opposing directional shifts to both south and northwest documents at least three distinct punch applications. The early die state east-west reverse scratches provide an attribution marker visible before die wear obscures them. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1945-P was the final year of wartime silver alloy production, and its triple-punched mintmark demonstrates the difficulty of precise manual P placement above Monticello.
