1944 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-022
Error
Description
Light spread on ERTY of LIBERTY distinguishes this twenty-second DDO for the 1944 Washington Silver Quarter, struck in 90% silver during WWII. Die markers: UVC-0398, DMR-023. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: MDS (unconfirmed). Stage C: Light die crack across hair at LDS, reverse also LDS. The die crack provides a late-stage marker. Twenty-two DDOs for 1944 reflects intensive research on wartime silver quarters where high demand consumed numerous dies. The ERTY region sits where letters are fully exposed to striking pressure.
