Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-514, this 1938-D/D/S Over Mint Mark documented by VarietyVista shows D/D/S Serifs, Centered — a D mintmark punched over an S mintmark with remnants of the San Francisco serif patterns visible beneath the Denver D. Die markers UVC-227 / DMR-012 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with both reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with both at LDS. Struck at Denver in 1938 — the final year of Fraser's Buffalo Nickel before the Jefferson design debuted — in 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter. Over mint marks occur when a die prepared for one facility is repurposed for another by overpunching with the new mintmark, reflecting the Mint's cost-saving approach to die utilization. FS-514.
