Cross-referenced as FS-511, this final-year Buffalo Nickel from Denver carries a D/D/D/S South, Southeast over mintmark — a D punched over multiple D impressions and an underlying S, indicating a die originally prepared for San Francisco was repurposed for Denver. Die markers UVC-224 / DMR-009 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with reverse and obverse at LDS; Stage D with reverse and obverse at VLDS. The four documented die stages through VLDS indicate this die saw extended production use. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1938-D was the final year of Fraser's design before Jefferson Nickels began, making OMM-001 a terminal-year variety with strong collector demand.
