1935-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-006

Description

Cataloged as UVC-147 with die marriage DMR-007, this 1935 Denver Mint Buffalo Nickel exhibits a D/D repunched mintmark displaced to the west. The westward shift indicates the initial mintmark punch was placed slightly east of its final position, with the corrective second impression leaving diagnostic traces of the original placement. RPM-006 is one of an extensive series of repunched mintmark varieties documented for the 1935-D Buffalo Nickel, reflecting the hand-punching process that characterized mintmark application throughout the pre-1990 era. Denver produced 12.09 million Buffalo Nickels in 1935, sufficient output to generate numerous die varieties across the many working dies required for that production volume. Fraser's iconic design was nearing the end of its twenty-five-year run, with the series concluding in 1938.
