Description
Leading the catalog for the 1935-D date, this Buffalo Nickel RPM-001 was documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-142 / DMR-002 and a D/D Northwest displacement. Three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The cataloger notes the need to examine a specimen for new color, high-magnification digital photographs, indicating current documentation may use older-generation imagery. James Earle Fraser designed the Buffalo Nickel, featuring a composite Native American portrait on the obverse and a bison on the reverse. Struck at the Denver Mint in 1935, composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams with a 21.21 mm diameter. The 1935-D had a mintage of approximately 12.1 million pieces during one of the series' later production years before its 1938 replacement by the Jefferson Nickel.
